If you or someone you love fights the daily battle of dependency on alcohol, drugs
or prescription medications there is hope!
First, a person must recognize that the alcohol or drugs is making their life worse,
not better. Often times, loved ones are able to help the abuser see this.
Next, the person must be willing to stop using the alcohol or drugs. But most people
who abuse alcohol or drugs find they can’t “just stop.” They can’t stay clean or
sober on their own for very long. Not having the alcohol or drugs can cause a condition
called “withdrawal.” Going through withdrawal on your own can be very uncomfortable,
dangerous, and even life-threatening. This is especially true for people abusing
alcohol or prescription pills.
White Mountain Regional Medical Center offers a better way. Medical detoxification
is a safe, comfortable process to eliminate these addicting substances from the
body. It is the only truly safe way for many people with serious alcohol or drug
problems.
Patients in our detoxification program will be treated with dignity and respect.
They will be observed and given the best medical treatment in order to make the
process as safe and comfortable as possible. We will teach them about the addiction
process. After they get out of the hospital they still need help to keep from using
alcohol or drugs again. We will help them make a plan for this kind of treatment.
Patients can be referred to the hospital for medical detoxification by their primary
care physician or they can refer themselves through the emergency department. For
